![]() Attack on Lindisfarne, attacks on Paris, Rollo as Duke of Normandy, Ragnar’s death, the revenge (kind of), Ivar taking York, Mediterranean exploit, discovery of Iceland, Battle of Marton (similar to Tettenhall, it was changed up for narrative purposes), Harald as the first King of Norway. It mashes a 300 year timeline into one to make the story interesting, but again, it still follows parts in history. I don’t know why you mentioned all that regarding to Vikings because i already know it’s inaccurate, it always has been. The thing they got right was the Battle of Tettenhall (even with changes) and Æthelflaed’s ascension. With season 4, what did we really see that was accurate? Ælswith should be dead, Winchester is never taken over, the Welsh storyline was all made up including their involvement in Tettenhall, Edward’s being incompetent wasn’t accurate, Sigtryggr’s arc was completely false etc. I don’t watch the show for historical accuracy but to say it’s “far far more accurate” I just don’t agree with. Even though it’s not the best, you might learn a thing or two at from the last kingdom though. I just want people to know they’re not learning history from it. People forget about relationships they had, suddenly there’s a long lasting affair between characters we’ve known for dozens of episodes.Īll this being said, I’m not saying don’t watch Vikings. The writing is pretty poor for the majority of vikings as well. In some cases it’s blatantly wrong and serves to fulfil today’s agendas like there being hundreds of shield maidens in every battle. Vikings mish mashes things that occurred hundreds of years apart together (battle of Malden happened in the 900s, generations after Alfred or Ragnar.and the Anglo Saxons lost! whereas all the battles in the last kingdom happen at their correct locations and dates) But on the whole I’d say it is far, far more accurate than Vikings. This is also due to the fact that I’m the books it’s Uhtred telling his own story and he’s an unreliable narrator. Are things changed around a bit to make the narrative quicker? Sometimes. Are there things that were made up? Sure. The last kingdom books follow the well known dates, relationships, sometimes costumes, culture etc of the age.
